Allcargo Undertakes a Noble CSR Initiative by Setting up a Skill Development Center for villagers of Maharashtra

Allcargo Logistics, through its in-house NGO Avashya Foundation has successfully inaugurated a skill development center in Uran (Maharashtra) and launched an extensive environment conservation program ‘Maitree’, as part of its CSR initiatives.

Allcargo has been spear heading numerous social programs supporting education, health care, women empowerment and natural disaster relief. These programs have benefited over 90,000 deserving citizens across India. Taking the cause forward, Allcargo has setup a skill development center at its CFS (Transindia Logistics Park) in Uran, which will train deserving citizens from the tribal as well backward regions of Maharashtra such as Marathwada (especially the children of farmers who have committed suicide due to drought in the region), in the skills of crane operations, heavy vehicle driving, warehouse management and others. The objective of the center is to empower them to acquire skills which will help them to find employment and sustain their living. 

The inauguration function was held on Friday 8^th January 2016. The dignitaries present were Founder & Chairman of Allcargo Logistics and Avashya Foundation Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty. He was accompanied by Mr. Suniel Shetty (actor) who is also a renowned proponent of social causes such as save the children program, Mr. Manohar Bhoir – MLA Uran, Prof. Anjali Kanetkar – from Nirmala Niketan College of Social Works, Mr. Nitin Chavhan – Tehsildar Uran, Mr. Prabhe – Block Development Officer (BDO), Smt. Mahatre – Sarpanch of Khopta Village and Mr. Nilesh Dhote – from RTO Vashi.

Allcargo also launched a unique environment sustainability and conservations program ‘Maitree’. This comprises planting of 10 lakh fruit bearing trees in the tribal and remote regions of Maharashtra. The objective of the program is to help make the environment greener by planting one of the most important elements for life on earth, i.e. trees. In the villages across India trees are not just a life support but also a livelihood for many families. By planting and nurturing fruit bearing trees the Maitree program will also provide opportunities for villages to earn additional income.  

Commenting on launch of the Skill Development Center & Maitree, Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty – Founder & Chairman of Allcargo and Avashya Foundation said: “The development and upliftment of the under privilege citizens in our society, is every ones responsibility. We should contribute in every manner we can. As India moves ahead, our youth today needs opportunities to earn their livelihood and thus skill development is one of the most important education they need. Providing them the infrastructure, training & exposure will go a long way in giving them a more prosperous and sustainable life. A society cannot sustain its growth without respecting the environment. Thus as a citizen of this planet we have to take care of mother nature. One of the most effective way to counter deforestation, pollution, drought, soil erosion, is to plant trees. They are an important element in the chain of life on earth. Thus our Maitree program is a step forward in that direction. With fruit bearing trees being planted we are also extending our support to the citizens who can earn an addition livelihood and support education, healthcare and a decent living for their families especially children”.
