Data Security Council of India Organizes 7th Best Practices Meet; Provides a Futuristic Backdrop for Architecting Security for Digital Transformation

Data Security Council of India (DSCI) organised its seventh edition of annual event Best Practices Meet (BPM) in Bengaluru on the 9^th and 10^th of July 2015. The two day event witnessed discussions on contemporary issues including policy matters, concerted efforts taken at national and sectoral levels, proposed industry steps, market response, globally evolved practices, technology innovation, industry standards and architectural designs, to see how they play their roles in building a secure cyber space. The conference was inaugurated by Mr. K. K. Natarajan, CEO, Mindtree.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. K. K. Natarajan, CEO, Mindtree said, “There has been great push for transforming the economy into a digital economy, complemented by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of a digitally empowered nation. As digital technologies on the one hand creates immense opportunities, it give rise to considerable vulnerabilities that can weaken the security posture.” He added “as trust is a main catalyst for one to execute their personal, societal, business and public service transactions, digital transformation can also shake up this trust, unless security is taken care of. Hence security should be an inherent component of this transformation.I am confident, that the DSCI Best Practices Meet will explore in-depth the structural and systematic analysis of security, and drive deliberations towards the need to build security by design.”

Mr. Nandkumar Saravade, CEO, DSCI, while welcoming the delegates highlighted the importance of Cyber Security in the digital world. He said "In the current landscape, the industry is witnessing wide-scale adoption of new technology solutions that are leading to building complex digital business models around technological breakthroughs. Cybercriminals take benefit of the scale and complexity brought about by the Digital transformation to attack these business models. Hence, cyber security becomes crucial while architecting the security of these models.  DSCI events like Best Practices Meet are the common ground for focused discussions. It was a pleasure to witness some of the implementable solutions emerging out of the sessions, in addition to enriching knowledge sharing.”

With “Architecting Security for Digital Transformation” as the theme, the meet paved the way for an elaborate, 360 degree analysis of the security architecture. The two-day conversations witnessed curated sessions for security architects, senior security managers and decisions makers on intricacies in architecting security. The event highlighted four workshops, including those on ‘Cyber Insurance’ and ‘Management of Legal Risks in IT-enabled businesses’ and , discussing ‘The Wearables: Relevance to Enterprise’, besides two track sessions on cyber & national security to organization’s information security and imperatives of architectural approach for solving security problems within the organisations.  The event additionally showcased interesting start-ups with burgeoning product innovations and exciting new solutions.

The event saw participation from over 300 participants from across India, including over 50 eminent speakers from the industry, encompassing 22 intense and insightful sessions. Attendees acknowledged the presence of a wide security and privacy community from India under a single-roof, and were seen making the best use of Q&A sessions after the primary discussion.
