The TCS IT WIZ has sought to bring a paradigm shift in the world of quizzing through a mix of intelligent and interesting questions as well as through the new technology concepts such as software based rounds, gamification and animation. This year, the platform has looked into the technological trends that are poised to have huge traction across the globe. Students who are a part of this quiz would benefit from understanding these technologies as they walk into their future. TCS IT Wiz was open to High school students studying in class 8-12 (including Pre University of Junior college students). There is no entry fee.

An interactive Twitter contest was organised during the quiz to engage with the students in real-time as a part of social media outreach programme.

Tweet and earn Mileage:

The Twitter contest witnessed 11041 tweets. The top two winners received themselves a cap and Bluetooth speakers. The twitter contest also involved earning mileage system where every tweet got them a point, tweet with picture 3 points and retweets fetched them 5 points. The student with highest tweet point across the 14 cites will win themselves a trip to Mumbai to witness Mega finals of TCS IT Wiz.

TCStweetwiz:

Three questions appeared on the screen and top three students who tweeted on first –come- first-serve basis along with all correct answers receive themselves a boom headphone each and a cap.

A live webstreaming of the Regional finals was also organised at www.tcsitwiz.com to facilitate more viewers across the country.

TCS IT Wiz Format: The written prelims had a set of 20 questions for all the teams at the venue. The top six teams from the written prelim qualified for the Regional final.

The highlight of the Regional finals of the quiz was the animation based quiz software with a unique format created by Quizmaster Pickbrain and his team. The rounds were:

  • FLIPBOARDING – The teams were given a choice to answer the direct question or FLIP the same for an easier question but with a lower value. A Flipped question if unanswered passed to the next team at the base value.

  • DRONING –The world is undergoing a rapid change in terms of supply chains with the induction of drones among their ranks. Taking a cue from this, the round comprised a set of countries on the globe and the team could choose a country to deliver the drone. They would get a question related to IT from the country of delivery. A passing round would test the team’s ability in terms of the global spectrum of information technology.

  • Disruptive Thinking - A new buzzer round with five clues of which only three relate to the disrupter. Teams needed to identify the disrupter from the clues.

  • SO LO MO– (social-local-mobile.) Another buzzer round wherein teams were given a question each from Social, Local and Mobile platforms, representing a modern connected world.

  • @TCS – a round from the world of TCS
