Emaar MGF Receives Industry Honour for Outstanding Contribution in Green Building Project

The Commonwealth Games Village - Residential project, developed by India’s leading real estate company Emaar MGF, was conferred the prestigious EPC World Award today for ‘Outstanding Contribution in Green Building Project- Real Estate Category’. The project received the award during the 5^th EPC World Awards 2014 held at The Ashok, New Delhi. Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Chief Financial Officer, Emaar MGF Land Ltd. accepted the prestigious award on Company’s behalf from Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State of Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) & Civil Aviation and Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Minister of State for Steel & Mining, Government of India.

The EPC World Awards is one of the most cherished industry recognition awards in India for acknowledging achievements and stimulating efficiency across the entire spectrum of Infrastructure, Energy, EPC and Construction industries.

The residential development, constructed for international athletes of Commonwealth Games 2010, has already received many accolades, both nationally and internationally, for its design and quality of construction. Sportspersons as well as officials around the world have considered it far ahead of the accommodation facilities provided for London Olympics held in 2012 and the Commonwealth Games 2014 held in Glasgow.

The project has also received the prestigious Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) award in 2012. GRIHA is India’s National Rating System for green building ‘design evaluation system’. GRIHA has been conceived by TERI and developed jointly with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

Commonwealth Games Village - Project Highlights (Green initiatives)

The Commonwealth Games Village Residential project is a GRIHA-rated Green Building for sustainable site planning, health and well being, water conservation and efficiency, sustainable construction technology and practices, waste management, and sustainable Operations & Management practices. The green initiatives were carried out right from the start of the project with preservation and protection of landscape during construction. The existing soil was also conserved and was used post construction for landscaping. Site topography was maintained and existing features were included in project design. During construction a very high level of sanitation and safety facilities were provided to the construction workers. Air pollution levels during construction were kept low by adopting cleaner practices. The internal painting has been done using low VOC paints. The Air-conditioning has been done using VRV based technology which has low ozone depleting substances. The water quality is of the highest standard with the installation of a WTP. For the conservation and efficient use of water, the surface water is recharged and the waste water is recycled and reused for horticulture and flushing needs. Low flow fixtures have been used to conserve water. Rainwater harvesting techniques have been used to boost the water table and ensure long-term water sustainability. In addition to this for conservation and efficient use of energy double glass has been used with Solar based outdoor and common area lighting.
