HERD Foundation Announces Winners of the HERD Premier League 2014

In Ramtek Taluka, Ambala Sporting Club, New Star Kabaddi Mandal and from Paresoni Taluka, Tekadi Boys Club and Durga Vikas Mandal win in volleyball and kabaddi respectively

HERD (Health Education Rural Development) Foundation, today announces the winners of  HERD Premier League (HPL) 2014, a mega sports event was held, in Ramtek and Parseoni Talukas in Maharashra, during July 15, 2014 and August 13, 2014. From 42 teams that participated in Volleyball competition from the RamtekTaluka, the Ambala Sporting Club, Ambala village in Maharashtra, and from amongst 47 teams in Parseonitaluka, Tekadi Boys Club, Tekadi village, Maharashtra, won the best Volleyball team titles and prize money of Rs. 21,000/- each. In the game of Kabaddi, New Star Kabaddi Mandal from Pathrai village, won over 64 teams in the Ramtek Taluka, Maharashtra and DurgaVikas Mandal, Tamaswadi village won over 50 teams in Parseoni Taluka, Maharashtra, and prize money of Rs. 21,000/- each.

HPL received over 500 registrations for the 100/200 mts athletics competition and over 450 registrations for cross country (5kms). From Ramtek Taluka, the winners were: Boys (100 mts) 1st prize – Pankaj Parteti (Hiwra village); Girls (100 mts) 1st prize – Karishma Uikey (Deolapar village); Boys (200 mts) 1st prize – Anil Brahmankar (Bhillewada village); Girls (200 mts) 1st prize – Rita Krupale (Dongri village); Cross Country (5 kms) Boys1st prize -Rajkumar Uikey (Waitola village) and Girls 1st prize – Rita Krupale (Dongri village).

Dr. Amol Deshmukh, founder and Managing Director, HERD Foundation, said, “I am overwhelmed by the success of inter-village sports matches organised by HERD Foundation where over 3000 people participated. In its first year, HERD Premier League witnessed, in the qualifying stages, participation from 128 villages across Parseoni & Ramtek Talukas. I congratulate all the winning teams and look forward to impacting many more lives in the next HPL”.

Over 3000 sports enthusiasts participated during the inter-village sports competition - HPL, 2014. Ramtek Taluka witnessed participation from 68 villages and the qualifying matches were held in Deolapar, Dahoda, Hiwra bazar, Ramtek, Bhandar Bodi and 60 Villages from Parseoni Taluka with qualifying matches held inSatak, Kolitmara and Navegaon Kheri. The qualifying teams went on to play the quarter, semi and final rounds held in Ramtek and Parseoni talukas.

HPL 2014, the first activity undertaken by HERD Foundation under the HERD Rural Sports Development Programme aims to build a replicable model, whereby, the village sports can be recognised in the mainstream league, to create entrepreneurial and employment opportunities through sports and identify talent pools for social development.
