SIFFCY 2018 Announces the Official Selection of Films - Will Screen Oscar Nominations

Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFFCY) is a celebration of exuberant childhood, youthful energy, positivity and progressive change. SIFFCY 2018 will once again celebrate meaningful and socially relevant cinema in its fourth edition that is scheduled to be held from 10th - 16th Dec'18 at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. The objective of Smile Foundation’s annual film festival is to use cinema as a catalyst, acquainting the young with meaningful cinema, creating conversations around topical issues and allowing the exchange of ideas and perspectives around the same.

More than 150 films from over 30 countries will be showcased which includes 9 feature films & 16 short films in the international competition section and others are in other different non-competitative sections, of Feature, Shorts and documentaries, & films made by children. Few of the most notables ones that are part of this bouquet are, Oscar nominated The Breadwinner Directed by Nora Twomey, Kenya’s Official entry to Oscar this year Supa Modo by Likarion Wainaina Cross My Heart by Luc Picard (Canadian Screen Award Winner), and Multiple award winning Indian film Chuskit by Priya Ramasubban among others.

According to Mr. Santanu Mishra, Executive Trustee of Smile Foundation & ChairmanSIFFCY, “There is an urgent need to sharpen the youth about issues that are influencing our general public. A film conveys considerably more than just entertainment. It is an engaging alternative, which can be utilised to hook the creative energy and the attention of the young minds, while at the same time animating them to consider individual, societal, and good world issues.”

 

In the words of Mr. Jitendra Mishra, Festival Director, SIFFCY, “SIFFCY 2018 will be treat for the children and parents alike with hand-picked movies across the globe, showcasing a fine amalgam of varied topics like peace, condition, family esteems, kinship, goals, dream, self-assurance and significance of training. We have planned this exceptionally uncommon program by going far and wide and pushing limits, with the goal that we will bring the best of world cinema for our neighbourhood youngsters and youth.

 

This year SIFFCY has collaborated with 'Schlingel', one of the most credible film festivals from Germany. As a partner country this year, SIFCY will showcase more than 10 German films during the week as the young viewers will get a chance to get a glimpse of German art, culture, and values through some of their best work in cinema. This will definitely give a major boost to India's ongoing cross-country relationship with Germany in the artistic realm. Well known children’s film curator Monica Wahi has curated the program for SIFFCY this year.
