New Delhi, Delhi, India
  • Launches #TellEveryone and #GlobalGoals campaign to spread the message

  • Uses SMS and social media to reach out to customers and employees

Telenor India is proud to support United Nations’ 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. These new goals have been marked as the most important to-do list in history. Telenor will spread the message around the goals to its 3,500 employees and reach out to its 48 million customers through its key communications channels, such as SMS and social media.

Last week United Nations launched these Global Goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things over the next 15 years. 193 world leaders have committed to get these done – across countries for all people. The three big targets are: End extreme poverty, Fight inequality & injustice and Fix climate change.

By extending Internet connectivity to as many people as possible, we enable access to vital services, such as health and education, whilst also contributing to the UN’s Global Goals. By harnessing our core business, we empower societies to deliver on many of the goals. To us this is about creating shared value,” says Vivek Sood, CEO of Telenor India.

The Global Goals are important and resonate with Telenor’s own ambition to connect 50 per cent of its customer base to the Internet by 2017, opening access to knowledge, opportunities and vital services that can bring a better future for everyone. Telenor’s ambition this week is to raise awareness of the goals among its 33,000 employees and 189 million customers spread in 13 countries.

Telenor in India is also stepping up its efforts in bridging mobile gender gap through Project Sampark, supporting the UN’s goal of Gender Equality. In Bangladesh, Grameenphone is developing new mobile health services and in other Telenor business units ‘Big Data’ has been harvested to fight the spread of epidemic diseases like Dengue. In India too, Telenor is launching a project to use Big Data to deal with impact of natural calamities.

Telenor has taken a customer centric approach to ensure that they get the full benefits of being connected. To achieve this, the company collaborates with local and global partners, such as UNICEF, to promote sustainable development that leverages mobile technology.

The current campaign is to ensure that everyone knows about the UN Global Goals and understands them to make it a success. Purpose of the messaging and social media campaign is to tell maximum people about them because the more people know about them, the more successful they will be.
